Growing New Brunswick’s Agricultural Market – Enabling Agricultural Research and Innovation

Agriculture is an industry that dates back centuries and is a practice that has developed and evolved with ever changing needs and technologies. This sector has adapted to become more sustainable given today’s economic needs. Though one thing will always remain the same, the fact that businesses in the agriculture sector need support.

The Canadian Agricultural Partnership has launched an initiative for Enabling Agricultural Research and Innovation. The program’s purpose is to encourage growth, profitability, sustainability, and self-sufficiency in New Brunswick’s agriculture, agri-food, agri-product, agri-science, and agri-processing sectors.

Type of Funding available

The Canadian Agricultural Partnership will reimburse direct project costs including salaries and benefits, travel, materials, supplies, equipment, rentals and leases, laboratory analysis, translation and administration, and other costs considered necessary. Advances may be provided upon request.

  • Innovative Research and Development
    • Projects with significant potential for sector wide benefits
      • Up to a maximum of 100% of costs; or up to a maximum of $60,000
    • Projects primarily benefit individual agribusiness farmer or group of farmers
      • Up to a maximum of 50% of costs; or up to a maximum of $30,000
    • Accelerating Agricultural Innovation
      • Projects with significant potential for sector wide benefit
        • Up to a maximum of 100% of the costs; or up to a maximum of $60,000
      • Projects primarily benefit individual agribusiness farmer, or group of farmers
        • Up to a maximum of 50% of the costs; or up to a maximum of $30,000
      • Innovative Technology and Demonstration
        • Supporting early adopters of new technologies or practices to assess their effectiveness in New Brunswick
          • Up to a maximum of 30% of costs; or up to $25,000 per year ($75,000 over life of program/applicant)
        • Supporting investments in the development or adaptation of technical innovations on farm
          • Up to a maximum of 30%; or up to a maximum of $25,000 per year ($75,000 over life of program/applicant)
        • Demonstration trials to accelerate technology transfer of techniques or practices
          • Up to a maximum of 100% of costs; or up to a maximum of $7,500

  • Agriculture producers (individual or groups)
  • Agriculture producer associations
  • Academic or research institutions
  • Indigenous People or Organizations
  • Other individuals or groups capable of achieving program objectives

    • Supporting investments in the development or adaptation of technical innovations on farm
    • Demonstration trials to accelerate technology transfer of techniques or practices

Deadline

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis till March 31, 2023, or until funds are exhausted.
