The Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) is a Canadian government initiative that provides funding and advisory services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to support research and development activities.
IRAP aims to help SMEs improve their competitiveness and productivity by encouraging them to undertake research and development projects that will lead to new or improved products, processes, or services. The program provides financial support to cover a portion of eligible project costs, such as salaries, materials, and equipment.
IRAP is managed by the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and is available to SMEs in all regions and sectors of the Canadian economy.

How Much Funding?
Up to $50,000 for Small Technology Innovation Projects or Accelerated Review Process (ARP)
Up to $250,000 for Mid-sized Technology Innovation Projects
WHO QUALIFIES?
Incorporated, profit-oriented small or medium-sized business in Canada with 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees
Eligible Activities & Expenditures
Developing and commercializing innovative, technology-driven new or improved products, services or processes in Canada;
80% of salaries/wages of directly involved employees
50% of contractor costs dedicated to the project
PROGRAM DEADLINE
Open intake throughout the year, but best to apply starting early April each year
