The Canada Ontario Job Grant or COJG program helps employers invest in training for current and future employees, in hopes to increase Ontario’s labour force through skill development. Through this program, the employer applies on behalf of their employee(s) for eligible training costs.

What is COJG?

COJG stands for Canada-Ontario Job Grant. It is a program that provides funding to employers to help them train their employees with new or better skills, in order to improve their job performance and contribute to the success of the business.

The program is funded by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario, and it is available to all types of employers, including small, medium and large businesses, as well as non-profit organizations. Through the COJG program, employers can receive up

to 83% of the training costs, up to a maximum of $15,000 per employee.

Through the COJG program, employers can receive up to 83% of the cost of training, up to a maximum of $15,000 per employee. The employer must contribute the remaining cost of the training.

How Much Funding?

For Small Employers (Less Than 100 Employees)

  • Up to 83% of allowable training expenditures
  • Up to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee

For Large Employers (More Than 100 Employees)

  • Up to 50% of allowable training expenditures
  • Up to a maximum of $10,000 for each trainee

For Small Employers Hiring and Training Unemployed Individuals

  • Up to 100% eligible training training expenditures
  • Up to a maximum of $15,000 per trainee

Licensed businesses operating in Ontario that meet requirements are eligible to apply

Eligible Activities & Expenditures

  • Training must be delivered in Ontario and is related to a job that is also located in Ontario
  • Training providers must be third-party partners, separate and distinct from the employer
  • Training must be the main business activity of the training provider
  • Tuition fees
  • Mandatory student fees
  • Examination fees
  • Required materials (e.g. textbooks, software)
  • Travel costs (for distances greater than 24km one way)

PROGRAM DEADLINE

Intake open throughout the year.

How to Apply

1. Identify your training needs.

Determine which employees need training and what type of training they require.

2. Find a training provider.

Identify a training provider that offers the training you need. This has to be a third-party provider.

3. Complete the application.

Fill out the COJG application form and submit it to the appropriate government agency.

4. Wait for approval.

Once your application has been received, it will be reviewed for eligibility. You will be notified of the outcome of your application typically within 30 business days.

5. Start training.

Once your application has been approved, you can begin your training program. Remember to keep track of all expenses and training records, as they may be requested for auditing purposes.
