Ontario is home to one of North America’s most robust automotive manufacturing sectors, producing over two million vehicles annually and employing more than 100,000 people. To support the continued competitiveness of Ontario-based automotive parts suppliers, the provincial government offers the Ontario Automotive Modernization Program (O-AMP)—a cost-sharing grant aimed at helping small and medium-sized suppliers modernize, innovate, and grow.

What Is O-AMP?
O-AMP is a government funding program administered by the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. It supports productivity improvements, technology adoption, and new product development within Ontario’s automotive supply chain.
The program is designed to help parts manufacturers upgrade their operations, boost competitiveness, expand product offerings, and prepare for the future of mobility.
Funding Amount
- Up to $150,000 in non-repayable funding is available per project.
- O-AMP will cover up to 50% of eligible project costs.
- Applicants must contribute the remaining 50% from their own funds.
- Only one application per intake period is allowed.
- Projects must be completed within two years from the date the funding agreement is signed.
Eligible Project Categories
Projects must support one or more of the following categories:
1. Technology Adoption to improve processes, competitiveness, and capabilities
- Software and hardware (e.g., ERP, MRP, MES systems)
- Automation systems and Industry 4.0 technologies
- Cybersecurity systems and enhancements
2. Lean Manufacturing resulting in operational efficiency and competitiveness improvements
- Lean process reviews (e.g., value stream mapping)
- Implementation of Lean or Six Sigma practices
- Consultant services to improve productivity
3. New Product Development and adopting technologies to assist with the development process
- Design and prototyping tools (CAD, CAM, DFM, FEA software)
- Simulation or digital product analysis
- New product development equipment
Eligible Project Costs
Eligible project costs must be directly related to and necessary for project completion, incurred after the application close date, and not reimbursed by other means. Approved categories include:
- Capital Costs: Purchase, installation, and licensing of project-related hardware/software; materials used for testing, configuration, and training.
- Training Costs: Staff training in novel techniques, non-management staff hours, and LEAN-focused consultant fees.
- Salaries and Benefits: Incremental wages/benefits for non-management employees directly involved in project tasks; external training provider fees.
- Travel and Living: Project-specific transportation and standard accommodation costs using the most economical options.
All costs are subject to review and must be documented.
NOTE: All equipment must be installed and used at Ontario-based facilities.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a for-profit Ontario-based manufacturer of automotive parts.
- Must work directly with OEMs of passenger and commercial vehicles
- Have fewer than 500 employees in Ontario.
- Generate less than $1 billion in global revenue.
- Operate for at least two consecutive years.
- Derive at least 30% of total sales from the automotive sector.
- Own or operate a manufacturing facility in Ontario at the time of the project start.
Application Deadline
The current intake is open until July 22, 2025
Applications must be submitted through the Transfer Payment Ontario (TPON) online system, including all required supporting documentation.
Applicants will be notified of results approximately 60 business days after the intake closes.
