NGen’s goal is to strengthen collaboration between manufacturers and technology companies to accelerate the development, adoption and scale-up of transformative capabilities in Canadian manufacturing. This program focuses on helping small- or medium-sized businesses scale-up plans for implementation, prepare technologies for production, and de-risk technology adoption.

Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster – Pilot Project Program (NGen) Overview

The Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster – Pilot Project Program, also known as NGen, is a Canadian initiative that supports innovation and collaboration in the advanced manufacturing sector. It provides funding and assistance for pilot projects with the potential to advance manufacturing processes and products.

Through NGen, companies, research institutions, and partners are encouraged to work together and develop innovative solutions to enhance the competitiveness of the Canadian manufacturing industry. The program specifically focuses on projects that leverage emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and additive manufacturing to drive advancements in automation, digitalization, and sustainable manufacturing practices.

How Much Funding?

– Up to 50%, to a maximum of $250,000
– Total project value should be $100,000-$500,000

WHO QUALIFIES?

– Any SME (less than 500 full-time employees) incorporated in Canada
– Must be a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster (membership is free)
– Projects must include at least two partnering SMEs
– International organizations can participate as partners but their work will not be eligible for funding

Eligible Activities & Expenditures

Developing technical capability, project management capacity, market knowledge and understanding of potential impact on Canadian Advanced Manufacturing ecosystem

Projects must involve advanced manufacturing and include one of:

  • IP commercialization strategy development
  • Business case development
  • Technical program development
  • Risk mitigation planning
  • Technology development
  • Manufacturing process development
  • Manufacturing process scale up from bench-scale toward full-scale
  • Salaries/wages
  • Sub-contract and consultancy fees (cannot exceed 70% of total costs)
  • Equipment, facilities, and supplies (capital and equipment cannot exceed 20% of total costs)
  • User fees
  • Materials
  • Room/facility rentals
  • Conference costs
  • Travel costs
  • Dissemintation costs
  • Other direct costs deemed eligible

Ongoing until March 31, 2023
