Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster – Project Program (NGen) Overview

The Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster – Project Program, known as NGen, is a Canadian initiative that supports collaborative projects in advanced manufacturing. It provides funding and encourages partnerships between companies, research institutions, and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions for enhancing competitiveness. NGen focuses on leveraging emerging technologies like AI and robotics to drive improvements in automation, digitalization, and sustainable manufacturing practices, fostering knowledge exchange and technological advancements. Ultimately, the program aims to bring these innovations to market, contributing to the growth, global competitiveness, and sustainability of the Canadian manufacturing industry.

How Much Funding?

– Up to 44.4% of project cost
– Total project costs should be between $500K and $20M

WHO QUALIFIES?

– For-profit and not-for-profit organizations that facilitate and fund R&D and whose funding is received primarily from private-sector organizations
– Any member of the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster
– Incorporated in Canada
– Minimum of 3 partners through NGen
– Project with 2 partners will be considered if costs are under $5M
– At least one SME partner needs to be involved.

Eligible Activities & Expenditures

Projects must involve advanced manufacturing and include one of:

  • IP commercialization strategy development
  • Business case development
  • Technical program development
  • Risk mitigation planning
  • Technology development
  • Manufacturing process development
  • Manufacturing process scale up from bench-scale toward full-scale
  • Salaries/wages
  • Sub-contract and consultancy fees (cannot exceed 70% of total costs)
  • Equipment, facilities, and supplies (capital and equipment cannot exceed 20% of total costs)
  • User fees
  • Materials
  • Room/ facility rentals
  • Conference costs
  • Travel costs
  • dissemination costs
  • Other direct costs deemed eligible
