What Is Industry Commercialization Associates Program?

The Industry Commercialization Associates Program (ICA) supports Alberta-based SMEs by providing funding to hire a Commercialization Associate (CA) who specializes in commercialization strategies. The CA works closely with the SME to develop a comprehensive commercialization plan, helping bring innovative products and services to the market and drive business growth, thus overcoming commercialization challenges and contributing to economic growth in Alberta.

Industry Commercialization Associates Program Overview

The Industry Commercialization Associates Program (ICA) is essential for supporting and empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Alberta. By providing funding for Commercialization Associates (CAs), the program equips SMEs with the expertise and resources needed to navigate the complexities of commercialization.

ICA program enhances the competitiveness and growth potential of Alberta-based SMEs by enabling them to access specialized commercialization knowledge and strategies. This support increases their chances of successfully bringing their innovative products and services to market, expanding their customer base, and generating revenue. Moreover, the program contributes to economic development and job creation in the province by stimulating business growth, attracting investment, and fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

How Much Funding?

75% up to a maximum of:
– $52,500 for level 1 full time associate
– $75,000 for level 2 full time associate
– $105,000 for level 3 full time or level 3 part time prorated

WHO QUALIFIES?

– Be a for-profit SME;
– Be an Alberta-based company
– Incorporated; or
– A General Partnership, Limited Partnership or Limited Liability Partnership AND registered in Alberta

Eligible Activities & Expenditures

Hiring a level 1, 2, or 3 associate to assist with commercializing innovative technologies.
– Level 1: Promotes and sells applicants goods and services
– Level 2: Has a bachelor’s degree and four to seven years of experience in
the business world. This Associate can develop and manage projects such as promotional and marketing campaigns of complex scope.
– Level 3: Will have a long and strong background in business development
and will likely also have senior level technical expertise in the technology the Applicant is marketing. This Associate is responsible for creating new business growth, leading licensing, directing the efforts of the sales and marketing group, and building and maintaining relationships with strategic partners.
